Further Activities
Vienna is famous for its balls. The first dancing events were held in Vienna in the 18th century. Today, 450 balls are held in the city every year, mostly during the carnival. But there are also summer events.
So bring your tuxedo or gown!
Vienna is also famous for its water, wine, and food. Two Vienna Mountain Spring Pipelines have been supplying Vienna since 1873 with (at present) up to 450,000 m³ of clear water a day from particularly pure springs in the mountains of Styria and Lower Austria. Vienna has nearly 1,500 acres of vineyards, more than 400 winemakers, and is one of the few capitals in the world that produces its own wine.
The Viennese cuisine is not restricted to Wiener Schnitzel or Kaiserschmarrn. As the former capital of the Habsburg Empire, Vienna absorbed influences from all over Europe over the centuries. Try the filled dumplings!
