2021 ACM SIGSIM PADS Ph.D. Colloquium Award

Call for Participation

Ph.D. Colloquium Session

The Ph.D. Colloquium Session at the 2021 ACM SIGSIM PADS is an exciting opportunity for Ph.D. students to present their work to the research community. While presenting your Ph.D. work to your student peers and society members, you will receive insightful feedback to further your research. Moreover, the 2021 ACM SIGSIM PADS will introduce you to a network of modeling and simulation professionals who can help advance your career during and after your graduate studies.

Students who are interested in participating in the colloquium need to submit an abstract with no more than 500 words according to the instructions given below.

Students who are notified that their abstract has been accepted will also be required to:

  • Prepare and record a 10-minute presentation of your research.
  • Attend the virtual sessions and actively engage with the audience. This event is an opportunity to discuss your ideas and build your network, so we encourage you to seize this opportunity actively.

More Reasons to Participate in the Ph.D. Colloquium

1. Free ACM SIGSIM Membership

ACM SIGSIM will provide complimentary one-year membership to all students participating in the colloquium.

2. Ph.D. Colloquium Award

One student presenter will be selected to receive the ACM SIGSIM PADS Ph.D. Colloquium Award.

3. Free Registration

Ph.D. students who present their Ph.D.-related work in the colloquium will receive a free registration to the conference (excludes students who also present papers in the main conference).

Submission Instructions

All colloquium submissions should include an abstract with no more than 500 words describing the research to be presented in the Poster Session along with the names of your co-authors. Your topic must be within the PADS program scope. We welcome abstracts about already-published work. Please specify that in your abstract.

Navigate to for submitting your abstract. Note that a full-paper submission is not required for participating at the colloquium.

Content Guidelines

  • While some context should be given, the main content of the presentation and poster should be concrete enough to enable discussions on (potential or already defined) research questions, approaches, and methods.
  • If you also present a full-paper or short-paper, your Ph.D. Colloquium submission should be clearly differentiated. For instance, the Ph.D. Colloquium is a good opportunity to go into aspects not covered in detail in the presentation of your regular submission or to discuss directions and early results towards future work.

For questions, please contact the Ph.D. Colloquium Chair.
