Successful Strategies for Doctoral Research in Modeling & Simulation
Modeling & Simulation (M&S) is a meta-discipline of sorts because it links well to many disciplines across academia. Therefore, doing a Ph.D. in M&S requires special attention to interdisciplinary thinking. Even though the traditional role of M&S is in dynamic systems, there are strong connections with other forms of models—from data and knowledge to geometry. We will explore strategies for doing M&S research with a broad view of modeling. What does it take to defend a thesis in this area? How important are interdisciplinary connections? We will investigate these questions and suggest paths that lead to successful approaches when conducting research and framing compelling arguments.
